- Abstract
- Big structures such as wind turbines can interfere with target detection by radars. The interferences occur by reflection and diffraction waves of the structures which confuse the radar signal of the targets including enemy vessels and aircrafts. Therefore, a wind power plant complex (WPPC) can be a direct cause for radar signal interference. In this paper, Geometrical Optics/Uniform Theory of Diffraction (GO/UTD) method in which we can simulate the antenna distortion patterns for wind turbines and a WPPC was used to determine the amount of interference caused by wind turbines and a WPPC. To simulate the antenna distortion patterns of wind turbines and a WPPC, bistatic radars are used and the receivers are set up at uniform intervals around a circle centered on the transmitter. In this paper, predictions for various cases including variations of frequency and distance between a transmitter and a turbine were conducted. Thus this analysis method can be used to appraise of the locations of WPPCs.
