- Abstract
- The dissertation is dedicated to the realization of subwavelength scale optical devices based on metamaterials, especially in the field of super-resolution imaging, beam propagation, and spectral control. The potential of metamaterials as practical optical devices is demonstrated. First, imaging platforms are proposed to enhance the resolution, the biggest issue in the imaging field. Focusing on the development of practical imaging devices, scalable and high throughput manufacturing and the possibility of combining with existing optical systems are verified. Second, optical devices controlling the propagation of light by the optical spin Hall effect are developed. The practicality of the device is dramatically increased due to the enhanced shift in light propagation and relaxation of initial conditions. Third, absorbers that control the absorption spectrum of light are developed. By controlling the radiation by absorption and controlling the absorption according to polarization, novel applications of absorbers are demonstrated. Considering the bottlenecks of metamaterials practicality, these works show the possibility of metamaterials as functional optical devices in the near future.
