dc.description.abstract | An urgent need exists to secure high-performance, versatile millimeter-wave 5G RF device technology, which will be an asset and the foundation of the future national infrastructure industry. This paper describes the required specifications and major research trends of 5G core RF devices, such as illimeter- wave 5G communication antennas, RF passive devices, and electromagnetic filter-absorbers. First, in the case of millimeter- wave 5G ntennas, the types of antennas mainly used in base stations, repeaters and mobile terminals are described, followed by recent commercialization efforts. Then, RF passive devices, such as polarization modulators for path loss compensation and non line-of-sight reduction, are presented. Lastly, the latest research trend regarding broadband filter-absorbers that can effectively suppress electromagnetic interferences is resented in detail. The authors redict that continuing advancements of the aforementioned 5G RF devices will serve as a catalyst to the proliferation of 5G+/6G communications using the sub-millimeter wave/THz spectrum. | - |
