Abstract
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has become a cornerstone therapy for managing chronic pain and neurological disorders, with ongoing efforts to restore specific human functions. However, conventional SCS electrodes face challenges in prolonged use due to their inherent stiffness and fluctuations in impedance. Addressing this issue, our study introduces a novel flexible electrode integrating variable stiffness technology and liquid metal-based conductive materials. This electrode demonstrates exceptional electrical stability, durability, and mechanical robustness. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy validates its conductivity, comparable to conventional electrodes. Our findings underscore the promising potential of integrating variable stiffness and liquid metal electrode technologies, offering a practical solution for long-term SCS applications in real-world scenarios.
