- Abstract
- We show numerically that with a self-amplified spontaneous emission free-electron laser (SASE FEL) using an undulator of several meters, the radiation wavelength can be extended further below 20 Mm with a saturation power similar to 0.1 GW. We present the dependency of the bunch length on the SASE FEL radiation power and saturation length. We also describe the effect of the wakefield of the electron beam in the undulator on the radiation power. We show that the SASE FEL can be a good candidate for a coherent terahertz radiation source with wavelengths extended to the infrared region.
