- Abstract
- A high-power industrial electron accelerator is under development for the CESC (Cheorwon Electron-beam Service Center) in collaboration with Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, Pohang University of Science and Technology (PAL/POSTECH) and Korea Accelerator and Plasma Research Association (KAPRA). It will be able to provide 10-MeV electron beams with an average beam power of 30 kW. The accelerator consists of an E-gun, a pre-buncher, and an accelerating column with a built-in bunching section. An L-band Thales klystron with a matched modulator produces 1.3 GHz, pulsed 25 MW, and average 60 kW RF power with a 7 mu s pulse length and a 350 Hz repetition rate. An accelerating column with a 2 pi/3-mode traveling wave is operated under a fully beam-loaded condition. This paper shows the design details, the current status of the CESC accelerator development, and the commissioning strategies based on beam dynamics simulation.
