An efficient method to calculate syndromes is proposed for strong BCH decoders. The proposed method derives even-indexed syndromes by applying power operations to the odd-indexed syndromes, and shares common sub-expressions in computing the power operations to reduce hardware complexity further. Compared to the conventional structure, the proposed method reduces the hardware complexity by more than 50%.-
