- Abstract
- The liquid flux film thickness is estimated from the equation of the mold powder consumption. The most recent semi-empirical powder consumption equation is modified by considering the effect of mold flux properties. This modified equation shows better prediction about mold flux consumption. From this modified equation, the effect of casting conditions (casting speed, VC, oscillation stroke, S, and frequency, f) and mold flux properties (flux solidification temperature, Tsol, and viscosity, ?) on mold powder consumption is analyzed. The thickness of the liquid flux film is estimated by using parallel flat plate model and the equation of the mold powder consumption. The results of the study show that the thickness of the liquid flux film is about 0.1mm at casting speed 2m/min and it decreases with increasing casting speed. In the real continuous casting operation, these results can help to select the optimum conditions of casting operation and mold flux.
