- Abstract
- REACH (Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals) is the strongest chemical regulations in the world. It addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment. If chemicals over 1 ton/year are produced in EU region or imported to EU region, the chemicals should be appropriately ‘registered’ and ‘reported’. However, the registration process is extremely complex and costly. The objective of the thesis is to propose the compliance strategy of Korean chemical companies to EU REACH program. The strategy consists of two folds. The first part is the cost reduction strategy for REACH registration process. The second part is the supplier management strategy. In the cost reduction strategy, we analyzed the registration costs and suggested the cost reduction strategy to each cost factor. In the supplier management strategy, the chemicals are grouped into four sections based on their supply chain characteristics, that is, ‘who is making the chemicals’ and ‘where the chemicals are exported to’. The proposed strategies are applicable to other countries which will adopt REACH.
