- Abstract
- Systems engineering is being applied to various fields of industry such as defense,
aerospace, transportation, information technology and other complex system
industries. But in Korea, the history of systems engineering application is relatively
short, and the applied industries are selective e.g., government-driven projects of
defense, aerospace and railroad industries. And the effectiveness of applying
‘generic systems engineering’ to these Korean industries was relatively low. Because
it was difficult to apply the ‘generic systems engineering’ processes of international
standards e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 which has a very high level of abstraction, to
an industry directly. Based on these experiences, the need of ‘domain specific
engineering standards’ which provide a detailed guide of corresponding industry is
obvious. And from the previous research, the importance of domain specific systems
engineering standards was proposed as they should be used as references for
developments of organizational engineering standards or guide.
In the paper, taking a step forward, international systems engineering standards
such as ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 have been analyzed as they are foundations of any
systems engineering based processes. Through the analysis, the generic systems
engineering processes refined and the engineering processes for each system
lifecycle phase developed based on the refined system engineering processes. Then
referring to the developed system lifecycle processes for each design phases, a steel-making
plant engineering guide has been suggested as an application case study.
