- Abstract
- This Master degree thesis reports about the fabrication of tapered nano fiber
and diameter measurement technique. Tapered nano fiber is fabricated by Heat
and pull technique using commercial bare fiber. Subwavelength diameter tapered
fiber is the promising tool itself for future experiment from variety of scientific
area. Based on this fabrication technique, We had constructed tapering machine
and currently nanofiber is fabricated by computer controlled fully automatic
process with the 500 nm diameter and about 4 ~ 5 cm waist length.
Also, We can check the realtime transmittance of fabricated tapered nano fiber
through measuring output power during tapering process and obtain result of over
80% high transmittance of tapered fiber. Additionally, We can confirm the
fabricated nanofiber is single mode condition by checking the result of
transmittance data.
Another important topic is the diameter measurement of fabricated tapered nano
fiber. Commercial optical microscope is not suitable for measuring diameter,
because its resolution is over the size of nanofiber diameter.
From this Master degree thesis, I’ll introduce about two representative method
for nanofiber diameter measurement technique.
One is the Scanning electron microscope (SEM) method (actually that is the
very general method for nano size measurement.) and another is the diffraction
technique. Both methods have merits and demerits, So, It need the suitable
treatments respectively.
By using both technique, I had experimentally confirmed the diameter of
nanofiber and uniform waist length.
I hope that this results will pave the way to a future experiment for photon pair
generation and light-atom interaction.
