- Abstract
- Recently, fault diagnosis is becoming more important due to the increasing demand of using permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs). In particular, an inter-turn short fault (ISF) is one of the most frequent electrical faults in PMSMs. In this paper, we chose a fault indicator that is not easily affected by the changes of the rotating speed in the case of the weak fault. In addition, we propose a method to accurately calculate the choosen fault indicator using negative sequence components (NSC). The proposed NSC method also dignoses the degree of the ISF. The effectiveness of the NSC method to diagnose the ISF was verified through experiments with various operating conditions.
